According to the rumored media reports, Apple has been working with Intel to develop 5G modems for the future generation iPhones. This is touted to be an early step, however, Apple seems to be in advanced level talks with Intel, keeping Qualcomm aside according to the latest developments.

Earlier today, Intel announced that it has finished an end-to-end call on the 5G network as a test and is fully able to start implementing it in devices. According to the reports, which cited an anonymous source, Apple engineers have been aggressively learning about Intel’s new chips and are working on how to implement them with the next generation of iPhones. If things go well, we might get to see the next rumored generation of iPhones ready with 5G hardware to support the next generation data transfer technology.

Qualcomm has been a pioneer in developing the technology and according to sources, it is more advanced in developing the 5G ready hardware, however, Apple states that the technology of Qualcomm will not be widely accepted by the carriers and partnering with the company might be an over-ambitious move for Apple.

Also, in case of Intel, if the company bags this partnership, this will be a revival of the company’s modem business, which has seen a slow growth for over the years. Intel has reportedly appointed several thousand engineers on its 5G R&D.
