Jonny Wexler was born in London, Ontario, Canada, to parents who are both doctors. He started performing at the age of six, when he took piano and singing lessons. He made his stage debut at the age of seven in Oliver! He was also a member of the Original Kids Theater Company and the Amabile Boys Choir. He performed in dozens of productions, including three consecutive High School Projects at the Grand Theatre, shows at Original Kids Theatre Company, summer stock and local community theatre, and a season at the Stratford Festival of Canada. He also began formal dance training and became a breakdancer and a member of the Albino Zebras crew.

Jonny Wexler got his big break in 2005, when he was cast as Moe Doodle in The Doodlebops, a live-action musical-comedy children’s TV show created by Michael Hirsh and Carl Lennox. He filmed 65 live episodes and 52 episodes of the cartoon spinoff, The Doodlebops Rockin’ Road Show.
